Hong Kong Airlines Aviation Training Centre obtains Occupation Permit

Date: 2019-02-14

Airline will also commence a fourth daily service to Beijing in April 2019

The Hong Kong Airlines Aviation Training Centre has successfully fulfilled the construction requirements set out in the Buildings Ordinance and granted an Occupation Permit (OP) issued by the Building Authority of Hong Kong on 12 February 2019. The OP serves as an important development for Hong Kong Airlines’ new aviation training facility, which is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2019.

Construction of the Hong Kong Airlines Aviation Training Centre began in March 2016, following a ground breaking ceremony officiated by representatives from the Hong Kong government and airport community. Located at 28, Kwo Lo Wan Road at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong Airlines’ state-of-the-art training facility is an 11-storey building covering an area of 5,858 square metres.

With the foundation in place and façade of the aviation training centre now completed, work is underway to furnish its interiors, including 24 training classrooms, as well as the progressive installation of 12 aircraft simulators and cabin emergency evacuation trainers of various aircraft models operated by the airline. A 25-metre-long swimming pool is also available at the centre for training purposes.

Hong Kong Airlines Chairman Mr Hou Wei said: “Hong Kong Airlines is proud to be one of Hong Kong’s home carriers. As one of the fastest growing carriers in the world, we are confident of our future and are committed to sustaining our long-term growth.”

“This world class facility reflects our vision to provide one of the most advanced training programmes for our aircrew, as well as nurture talents to support the ongoing development of Hong Kong’s aviation industry,” Mr Hou added.

Hong Kong Airlines currently has more than 600 pilots and over 1,800 flight attendants supporting its operations. Two batches of cadet pilots are currently undergoing training and the first batch is expected to graduate in June 2019.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Airlines is making adjustments to its business strategy to better respond to market forces and operational conditions. To cater to passenger demand and provide customers with more travel options, Hong Kong Airlines will add a fourth daily service between Hong Kong and Beijing from 15 April 2019. At the same time, Hong Kong Airlines will discontinue its services between Hong Kong and Auckland from 22 May 2019.

Hong Kong Airlines will continue to study the market closely and explore opportunities to launch new destinations.
