Hong Kong Airlines named Caring Company for fifth consecutive year
Date: 2015-03-26

Caring Company Partnership Expo hosted by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) was held yesterday. Hong Kong Airlines is pleased to receive the "5 Years Plus Caring Company Logo" in recognition of its strong commitment to caring for the community, its employees and the environment, and its continued effort in corporate citizenship in the past years. Ms. Viola Li, Director of Human Resources and Administration of Hong Kong Airlines attended the ceremony.

Launched by HKCSS in 2002, the Caring Company Scheme aims at cultivating corporate citizenship and promoting partnerships among businesses and non-profit organizations to care for the community, employees and the environment, and thus create a more cohesive society. Hong Kong Airlines was nominated by Caritas Hong Kong for five consecutive years, recognizing for its effort in building a caring community.

Ms. Viola Li said at the ceremony, "We are delighted to receive the 5 Years Plus Caring Company Logo from the HKCSS. Since its establishment in 2006, Hong Kong Airlines is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen. While seeing rapid growth of the company, we have organized and participated in a board range of charitable activities and programmes which showed our commitment for the community, our employees and the environment. This award is a compliment for our effort and we will continue to demonstrate our caring spirit to the community.”

Hong Kong Airlines strives to give back to our community. Through the corporate Volunteer Team, we encourage employees to participate in different Corporate Social Responsibility activities, such as Chinese New Year Lucky Bags Volunteer Service and Caritas Fundraising Bazaars, to promote positive messages across the community. Being a "people-oriented" company, Hong Kong Airlines believes employees are the most valuable asset and appreciates their contribution. Hong Kong Airlines have a number of recreational clubs and activities, such as Football, Hiking, Tennis and Running clubs, to let staff members relax and build friendships outside of the office.

As a Hong Kong-based airline, Hong Kong Airlines takes responsibilities for nurturing aviation talents and helping youngsters to fly high and reach their dreams. So we have launched a number of student sponsorship and aviation education programmes, such as "Triumph Sky High" Junior Programme, "Embrace the World" Student Sponsorship Programme and School Sharing Workshops. Through these programmes, we wish to enhance aviation knowledge among the youth, attract more young people to join the aviation industry, and to support the industry’s future development.

To protect the environment, Hong Kong Airlines operates an all-Airbus fleet. These aircrafts adopt new designs and are equipped with efficient engines which can reduce noise and improve fuel consumption. The airline operates one of the youngest fleets in the world. As of February 2015, the average age of the fleet stands at just around 3 years. A young fleet normally performs better fuel saving and can improve flight performance.
