Date: 2021-08-03

Hong Kong Airlines received HKIA Safety Excellence Award (Merit) in the Corporate category.

Hong Kong Airlines was once again recognised for its commitment to safety at the annual Airport Safety Recognition Scheme established by the Airport Authority Hong Kong. The carrier bagged the HKIA Safety Excellence Award (Merit) at the corporate level while employees from operational departments received individual awards for their contributions in other safety categories.

Speaking at an internal awards presentation ceremony held at the HKA Training Academy recently, Hong Kong Airlines Chief Executive Officer Captain Jeff Sun congratulated the awardees and commended their efforts in pursuing safety excellence.

“Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have been operating in an ever-changing environment. While this poses a challenge to our business and operations, Hong Kong Airlines has continuously managed its safety risks to comply with regulations and uphold best practices in safety management,” said Captain Sun.

As we focus more on cargo business, we will continue to raise safety awareness, especially in the area of dangerous goods handling, regularly review our standard operations procedures and conduct more audits to ensure a safe cargo operation,” he added.

For demonstrating outstanding safety performance over the past year, Hong Kong Airlines staff received a total of eight awards under the Accident Preventive Measures, Best Safety Supervisor and Good Safety Suggestions categories in the 2020/21 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme. Accolades include managing safety risks in a systematic yet flexible and just manner to safeguard its passengers, employees and company assets. To reinforce workplace safety, special campaigns were launched to raise awareness on health issues when operating under seasonal weather changes. Operational staff also proactively address industry risks and evaluate occurrences from various stakeholders to develop and strengthen its multi-layered accident preventive measures.

Vincent Chong was praised for his contribution to Prevention of Heat Illness Safety Campaign.

Jacky Yau achieved the Best Safety Supervisor award for his dedication to Joint inspections and HRM.

Hong Kong Airlines staff congratulated on their excellent achievement in the 2020/21 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme.

“The past year has been one of the most challenging periods in Hong Kong Airlines’ history but our commitment to safety has not wavered,” said Captain Alex Linhares, Director of Corporate Safety, Quality Assurance & Security.

These awards reflect the professionalism and efforts of our colleagues and we are very proud of their achievement during this difficult period for the aviation industry. We will continue to ride on our success as a team to uphold safety excellence at all times,” he added.
