Q1. I am allergic to dog / cat hair. How do I know if there are any pets on board? What will be done in such a situation?
- Any passenger with allergic reaction to dogs or cats will be arranged to sit as far away as possible from the pet in the same cabin If a passenger indicates that they have a severe allergy to dogs or cats that rises to a level of disability (e.g. anaphylaxis that may cause shock or respiratory distress and requires emergency or major medical treatment), our ground staff will ask for a medical proof or contact MedLink for advice. Once confirmed, the passenger with severe allergy will be disembarked and rebooked on the next available flight. Hotel accommodation will be offered if an overnight flight is involved.
Q2. What if my pet is not feeling well during the flight?
- We strongly advise passengers to consult a veterinarian prior to reserve this service and travel.
Q3. How will the pet be arranged in the cabin, including the use of pet masks and diaper?
- Pets should be kept in an escape-proof, leak-proof and sealed pet carrier during the flight, but a gap of up to 2cm between the zippers is allowed for water feeding. Pets should also wear a pet diaper during the flight.
Q4. Where will my pet be placed? Can I request an extra seat for my pet?
- When departing from Hong Kong to the designated destinations, your pet must be placed under the seat in front of you and is not entitled to an individual seat.
Q5. Will my pet take up my cabin baggage allowance?
- No, pets are not counted, and passengers will still be entitled to the cabin baggage allowance according to your flight ticket.
Q6. When and how should I check-in?
- You must arrive at the airport check-in counter at least 2 hours prior to the departure time with your pet, present the consent letter and all required documents for verification. Online check-in and airport self-service check-in are not applicable for passengers travelling with their pets.

Q8. What entry and exit documents or certificates are required for pet travel?
- Please refer to the specific requirements of the relevant authorities at the destination for details, including but not limited to following documents:
- Animal Health Certificate
- Dog Licence
- Microchip, Rabies serology certificate
- Entry permit or approval of import inspection of animals
- If travelling to Japan, please refer to the requirements of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
Q9. I already have a valid Hong Kong Airlines ticket to the destination. Can I purchase the "Flying with Pets" service separately from Pet Holidays?
- Passengers using the "Flying with Pets" service must book their flight tickets directly through Pet Any tickets purchased through Hong Kong Airlines’ website, travel agencies or other channels, including but not limited to sponsored tickets, award tickets, and Fortune Wings Club redemption award tickets, are not eligible for the " Flying with Pets " service.
Q10. What do I need to pay attention to for my pet’s inbound flight to Hong Kong?
- Your pet can only be imported into Hong Kong as a manifested cargo, according to the laws and regulations in Hong Kong. Please contact Pet Holidays to make the appropriate arrangements.
1. “Flying with Pets” is subject to these Terms and Conditions. By purchasing the “Flying with Pets”, you shall be deemed to have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
2. “Flying with Pets” provides a service which allows accompanied travelers to travel with their pets in the same cabin onboard Hong Kong Airlines.
3. Passengers shall prepare all relevant documents, quarantine certificates and the Consent Letter (completed and signed) on their own and provide them to our Customer Service Centre at least 7 days prior to the departure date.
4. Full payment of the “Flying with Pets” shall be settled 7 days prior to the departure date.
5. Passengers must arrive at the airport check-in counter at least 2 hours in advance of the departure time and present the consent letter for verification to complete check-in procedures.
6. “Flying with Pets” is only applicable to direct flights operated by Hong Kong Airlines, from Hong Kong (HKG) to the following destinations: Tokyo Narita (NRT), Osaka Kansai (KIX) and Nagoya Chubu Centrair (NGO). No transit/ connection flight upon the arrival of destination is allowed.
7. The weight of the dog/cat must not exceed 8 kg (including the pet carrier bag). Dog or cat shall be travelling with a valid document, including but not limit to health and vaccination certificates, microchip, permits, and other documents required by the destination.
8. Hong Kong Airlines does NOT accept the following types of dog/cat for travel on our flight:
- Any breeds of fighting, brachycephalic (snub-nosed, short snout or flat face) dog/cat due to legal regulations, and possible health risks.
- Any dog /cat in pregnancy.
- Un-weaned dog/cat and age under 8 weeks shall not accept.
- Sick, injured or debilitated dog/cat.
9. Passenger’ ticket is subject to the General Conditions of Carriage published by Hong Kong Airlines, and it is available on Hong Kong Airlines' website.
10. “Flying with Pets” service is non-refundable and subject to availability.
11. In the event of flight adjustments or cancellations by the airline, Hong Kong Airlines will provide flight protection under standard procedure, or the passenger may apply for a full refund of the “Flying with Pets” service fee, along with the associated flight ticket.
12. In the event of flight cancellation initiated by the airline, all compensation will be offered to passengers only as per standard compensation guideline. Only one single room will be offered to the passenger (if entitled) as per standard compensation guideline and the passenger shall settle any extra charge requested by the hotel.
13. In the event of the hotel refusing to accept passengers with pets, the passengers shall arrange their own accommodation. Allowance will be offered as1 per Hong Kong Airlines’ policies.
14. In the event of flight diversion and disembarkation is required at the diversion station, passenger shall follow the local destination airport quarantine requirement with the assistance of local station staff. All related costs shall be absorbed in the passenger’s own account.
15. Online check-in service (including but not limited to self-check-in, mobile boarding pass, etc.) is not available for passengers traveling with pets.
16. Airport lounge access is not available for passengers travelling with dogs or cats.
17. Passengers are required and shall be responsible to prepare all relevant documents, quarantine certificates on their own. For Japan region, please refer to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
18. Hong Kong Airlines is not liable for any refusal of entry into or passage through any country or region by the authorities.
19. Hong Kong Airlines is not liable for any discomfort, damage to health, injury, illness or death of pet during anytime of the journey.
20. Hong Kong Airlines is not liable for any discomfort, damage to health, injury, illness or death of pet caused to other passengers. Hong Kong Airlines reserves the right to take appropriate action and all legal rights in case of any damage the pet caused to Hong Kong Airlines.
21. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall confer any third-party rights or benefits.
22. “Flying with Pets” is subject to the General Conditions of Carriage published by Hong Kong Airlines (subject to change from time to time) and is available on Hong Kong Airlines' website. Other terms and conditions available at www.hongkongairlines.com also apply. Hong Kong Airlines reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice.
23. If there is any inconsistency or ambiguity between the English and Chinese versions of these Terms and Conditions, the English version shall prevail.
24. In the event of any dispute regarding any of these Terms and Conditions, the decision of Hong Kong Airlines shall be final.
25. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
