Hong Kong Airlines welcomes the latest Budget announced by the HKSAR Government, expressing its support for the various measures designed to strengthen the city's aviation and tourism sectors. The airline believes these initiatives will be instrumental in enhancing Hong Kong's long-term competitiveness as an international aviation hub.

Hong Kong Airlines Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr Bruce Wang said: "As an airline with deep roots in Hong Kong, we will remain firmly committed to our home base. We will continue to proactively leverage the city’s unique advantage as a gateway connecting Chinese Mainland with the world, expanding and optimising our route network to fully support the vibrant growth of the local aviation and tourism sectors."

He continued: "We are delighted that the Budget proposes the active expansion of our air rights network to emerging markets, including those along the 'Belt and Road', a direction that aligns perfectly with our own development strategy. The full commissioning of the Three-Runway System will significantly boost the airport's overall capacity and efficiency, providing tangible encouragement to the entire aviation industry. Hong Kong Airlines is poised to seize these opportunities. Moreover, our passenger check-in counters will be relocated to the expanded Terminal 2 this May, which will enable us to offer a more convenient and efficient service experience for our passengers."

Looking ahead, Hong Kong Airlines looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with the HKSAR Government, Airport Authority Hong Kong, and other stakeholders in the tourism sector. Together, we aim to attract more high-value visitors to the city, further cementing Hong Kong's dual status as a premier travel destination and a leading international aviation hub.

Hong Kong Airlines, the internationally-acclaimed full-service airline, brought together students from the Asbury Methodist Primary School and Tin Shui Wai Methodist Primary School yesterday on board a real aircraft and touring around the airport facilities.  Nurturing younger generation with aviation knowledge has been a key CSR initiative of Hong Kong Airlines.  Dedicated to spark the youngsters’ interest in aviation, the “Triumph Sky High” Junior Program gave participating students chances to take a closer look and experience for themselves different aspects of the aviation operation, under the guidance of Hong Kong Airlines’ crew members.

Since its launch in 2014, Hong Kong Airlines “Triumph Sky High” Junior Program has come to its 14th, and offered more than 400 local primary and secondary students from different backgrounds the opportunity to learn about the aviation operation through aircraft visit and gave them exposure to the daily works of cabin crew members.

The aviation experience tour commenced with a visit to Hong Kong Airlines’ catering service centre and check-in counters at the Hong Kong International Airport. Students then traveled on the Automated People Mover and went onboard a Hong Kong Airlines aircraft in the Midfield Concourse.  Pilots and cabin crew of Hong Kong Airlines shared their aviation knowledge and flight experiences with the children of whom also learned the structure of cockpit and cabin, experienced Business Class facilities, tried on life jackets and even performed the tasks of making inflight announcement and serving meals to passengers.

Hong Kong Airlines is delighted to announce that it has gradually resumed more flights to regional destinations in the second half of 2022. Following the relaxation of travel restrictions worldwide, the Company is continuing to adjust its schedule to better serve travellers’ needs.

Starting from June, Hong Kong Airlines resumed weekly flights to Seoul and Hanoi. Following a review of ongoing market needs, flights between Hong Kong and Seoul will be increased to four-times weekly starting from 26 September, while the Hong Kong - Hanoi service is expected to be operated daily in Q4 2022.

Flight frequencies to regional destinations such as Bangkok and Manila will also be boosted. Since this July, the Company has resumed its weekly service to Manila as well as twice-weekly flights to Bangkok. With the continual easing of travel restrictions, Hong Kong Airlines will strengthen its operations with two additional flights to Bangkok starting from 29 September. It will also look to upgrade the Hong Kong - Manila service to a daily frequency with the schedule to be announced at a later date.

As Japan gradually opens up, services to various destinations in the country are expected to resume in the coming months. Along with the existing three weekly flights to Osaka, Hong Kong Airlines is working on adding more flights soon.

Hong Kong Airlines Vice President Louis Li applauded the Japanese government’s recent decision to lift its ban on individual tourist visits. “Japan is one of the most important markets for Hong Kong Airlines. In July this year, we proudly partnered with EGL Tours to serve the first group of travellers returning to Japan onboard our Osaka flight right after the country relaxed its travel restriction. As Japan looks set to fully reopen its borders to tourism, we look forward to resuming flights to Sapporo and Okinawa later this year,” he added.

Hong Kong Airlines is committed to serving the needs of travellers. Throughout the course of the pandemic, it has served as an important regional airline, offering convenient transits from its hub in Hong Kong to other international markets and Mainland China.

The Company recently resumed its once-weekly flight to Chongqing, which joins the existing services to Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai Pudong as the fifth Mainland China destination in operation. The flight resumption of Chongqing is the result of close cooperation between the airline and local authorities, who supported Hong Kong Airlines in operating a special flight to Chongqing on 30 August to assist Hong Kong students entering into the Mainland for school.

Since resuming operations to Hangzhou and Nanjing back in July, Hong Kong Airlines has actively looked for new opportunities to resume more flights to Mainland China. Along with the Chongqing service resumption, flight frequencies to Hangzhou, and Nanjing have been increased to twice-weekly since early September.

Following the anticipated relaxation of travel restrictions worldwide, more flights are set to be resumed in order to meet the increased demand for international transit traffic as well as local travel. Hong Kong Airlines maintains a positive outlook on the Mainland market and will adjust its operations to cater with the ever-changing environment.

“Like any other carrier, Hong Kong Airlines has been affected by the pandemic. However, we have remained agile and adjusted our operation strategy to turn our passenger flights into cargo services. We have expended our cargo operations to more international destinations including Shanghai, Sydney, Singapore, Manila and Kuala Lumpur. We look forward to resuming more passenger flights in Q4,” said Louis Li, Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines.

The current schedule for Mainland China services is as follow:

Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Kate Jones, welcomed the news after Hong Kong Airlines’ first seasonal service touched down on the Gold Coast in January.

“Hong Kong Airlines will complete its seasonal service in March and step up immediately to a twice-weekly, year-round service from late March on the same direct route to the Gold Coast, returning via Cairns,” Minister Jones said.

“The new year-round service will open the door to as many as 13,000 extra travellers to the state each year, generating up to $32 million in overnight visitor expenditure.

“That means in our first year, the Palaszczuk Government has secured additional international flights expected to bring 200,000 more visitors to Queensland and up to $287 million for our economy.”

Ms Jones said the Palaszczuk Government’s $10 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF) supported the Hong Kong Airlines service in partnership with Gold Coast Tourism, Cairns Airport, Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Tourism Australia and Gold Coast Airport.

“AAIF is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Working Queensland commitment to drive employment growth and stimulate regional economies,” she said.

“We continue to work with international airlines, Tourism Australia, major airports and regional tourism organisations to increase the number of incoming flights from major global ports to Queensland.

“China in particular is an important international tourism market and has the largest visitor expenditure for Queensland. Greater Chinese visitors, including those from Hong Kong and Taiwan, spent almost $1.2 billion in Queensland in the year to September 2015.

“This in turn reflects the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to growing the industry which provides jobs for Queenslanders across the state.”

Mr. Li Dianchun, Chief Commercial Officer of Hong Kong Airlines, said: “Hong Kong Airlines is honoured to have the full support of Tourism and Events Queensland in extending the flight service from Hong Kong to the Gold Coast and Cairns.

“Queensland is undoubtedly a wonderful destination for travellers and overwhelming response have been received since its launch in January,” he said.

“We firmly believe the year-round service will further enhance the cultural, tourism and business exchange between China, Asia and Australia via our strong international hub Hong Kong, bringing into full play our connectivity in this part of the world.”

Tourism Australia (TA) Managing Director John O’Sullivan said TA planned joint marketing initiatives with Hong Kong Airlines and had earmarked significant funding over the next two years towards targeting North Asia’s rapidly growing market of free and independent travellers.

“This is great news for Australian tourism, and a very significant further step towards encouraging greater numbers of our Greater Chinese visitors to disperse more widely across our country,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“It’s also very timely, with the onset of Chinese New Year once again highlighting the critical importance of China to our industry.”
